Learn Landscape Photography
Group Workshops
In 2023 I will be running some special workshops with my longtime friend and colleague Richard Walls, proprietor of the Old School Gallery in Muker, Swaledale. We have designed two full day group workshops to showcase the very best of Yorkshire Dales scenery.
Muker Wildflower Meadows
Muker's wildflower meadows are acknowledged to be amongst the best examples of upland hay meadows in the UK. Twelve of Muker's meadows are designated sites of special scientific interest with four of these recognised as Coronation meadows: "Outstanding examples of our remaining meadows, rich in a wealth of flowers and able to be held up as the flagship meadow for the county".
The meadows are a wonderful example of nature and traditional farming methods combining to create something both beautiful and of real value, the hay providing winter fodder for the livestock and the abundance of flowers, set beneath towering fells, providing a feast for the eyes and food for the soul. It's impossible not to return from a walk through the meadows uplifted and inspired.
In this workshop we will photograph some of the meadows close to Muker and Thwaite and explore different techniques and compositional ideas useful for landscape photography in general and for meadows and flower photography in particular.

Keld Waterfalls
As the river Swale flows down the dale from its beginnings on Birkdale Common it falls over a series of drops close to the village of Keld. Wain Wath Force, Catrake Force, and Kisdon Force are all stunning examples.
The waterfalls are set below limestone escarpments and gorges, overlooked by natural woodland. Entering Kisdon Gorge is like stepping back in time to discover a lost world untouched by human hand.
For those interested in more recent history, the Beldi Hill lead workings, close to the river, offer a glimpse of Swaledale's industrial past.
In this workshop we will be photographing the waterfalls close to Keld and the limestone landscape of which they are a part, exploring different techniques and compositional ideas that reveal and accentuate the waterfalls' natural grace, beauty and power.
